Cranfield recognised for best practice in supporting spinout companies

Cranfield University's commitment to best practice in commercialising its research has been recognised by Research England. Cranfield is included in the latest list of institutions adopting the UK Government's spinout best practices, derived from an independent review that Cranfield welcomed earlier this year.

The influential role that UK universities play in driving economic growth and impact through the commercialisation of research innovations was highlighted in the Independent Review of University Spinout Companies , published in 2023.

The report recommended universities should adopt innovation-friendly policies, underpinned by guidance that has been co-developed between investors, founders, and universities; improved data with a national register of spin-outs; increased funding for proof-of-concept; consolidation and expansion of existing support services and an movement of people between academia and industry. Cranfield has committed to the adoption all of these recommendations.

Professor Leon A. Terry, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at Cranfield University commented: "Cranfield has a proud track record in helping talented people to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and bring their ideas into practical applications. Commercialising research is key to building economic growth and productivity.

"Adopting these recommendations shows our commitment to maximising the real world impacts of our research, through commercial pathways."
