CONCORD PARTNERS WITH LOCAL SPONSORS TO PROVIDE DICTIONARIES TO MERCER COUNTY THIRD GRADERS

ATHENS, W.Va. - Each year, Concord University partners with local sponsors including Bluefield
Rotary Club, Princeton Rotary Club, and New River Community and Technical College to
participate in the Dictionary Project, which provides dictionaries to all third-grade students in
Mercer County. One host school is selected to serve as the celebration site, where students
attend an assembly and will hear an address by Concord University's President, Dr. Kendra
Boggess. This year, the event will take place at Mercer Elementary on Monday, October 16th at
10:00 AM.

Dr. Boggess says of the project, "I'm very happy to participate in an event that puts a spotlight
on the importance of education and supports our younger generation in their formative years.
This certainly fits within standards of excellence we strive for at Concord University."

Based in Charleston, SC, the vision of the Dictionary Project is to provide a dictionary to every
student in the United States, with the help of local sponsors and volunteers. The goal is to help
students improve their communication skills and make the most of their education. Many
sponsors also take the Dictionary Project beyond the United States to help improve literacy
worldwide.
