April 2024 U.S. Airline Traffic Data Up 4.7% from the Same Month Last Year

U.S. airlines carried 81.2 million systemwide (domestic and international) scheduled service passengers in April 2024, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). When adjusted for seasonality, April enplanements are down 0.5% from March and down 1.8% from the all-time high reached in February 2024.

BTS reported 70.6 million domestic passengers and 10.7 million international passengers on U.S. airlines flights in April, not adjusting for seasonality.

Two measures of U.S. airlines passenger enplanements

April seasonally adjusted

  • Systemwide enplanements (80.8M) were down 1.8% from the all-time high of 82.2 million reached in February 2024.
  • Domestic enplanements (69.8M) were down 2.0% from the all-time high of 71.2 million reached in November 2023.
  • International enplanements (10.95M) were down 1.7% from the all-time high of 11.14 million reached in February 2024.

April unadjusted

  • Systemwide enplanements (81.2M) reached a new all-time high for the month of April.
  • Domestic enplanements (70.6M) reached a new all-time high for the month of April.
  • International enplanements (10.65M) reached a new all-time high for the month of April.
