Applications open for Planning Commission, Wharves Board

GALVESTON, TX - August 13, 2024 - The Galveston City Council is accepting applications for two city boards - the Galveston Wharves Board and the Planning Commission - and we encourage interested residents to apply.

The deadline to apply for the Galveston Wharves Board and the Planning Commission is September 5, 2024. City Council requires interviews for both boards, which will be held on September 12, 2024. Applicants will be appointed during the council meeting on September 19, 2024.

The Wharves Board of Trustees oversees the management of the Port of Galveston and meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 9 a.m. There are two openings on the wharves board and the trustees currently in the open positions are eligible for reappointment.

The Planning Commission duties are to make, amend, extend, or add to a Master Plan for the physical development of the City; recommend to the City Council approval or disapproval of proposed changes in the zoning plan; approve or disapprove the platting or subdividing of land within the corporate limits of the City and within adjacent areas as permitted by law. The board meets twice monthly on the first and third Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. There are three openings on the commission and all three have members eligible for reappointment.

Existing trustees will need to reapply for open positions to be considered in addition to new applicants.
