Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker will preside over a plaque dedication ceremony to honor FDNY Chaplain Monsignor John E. Delendick on Friday, November 22, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Engine Company 257, Ladder 170, Battalion 58 at 1361 Rockaway Parkway, Brooklyn. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department's website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY or HERE.
Monsignor Delendick was a 28-year veteran of the Department who succumbed to World Trade Center related cancer on November 23, 2023.  Monsignor Delendick was 74 years old.
Monsignor Delendick was appointed as an FDNY Chaplain on May 15, 1996. On September 11, 2001, Father Delendick arrived at the World Trade Center soon after the second plane struck and survived the collapse of the towers. He spent many hours over the next eight months bringing families to the World Trade Center site, officiating at memorial and funeral services, and caring for the loved ones of those lost. For years after, Monsignor Delendick was a fixture at FDNY ceremonies like funerals, graduations and promotions, among others.
