Parking closures, building closures, and road closures on Tuesday 8/6

To the Temple community,

As we previously shared, on Tuesday, Aug. 6, presidential candidate and current Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a campaign event at Temple's Liacouras Center. Due to the event, we expect road closures, increased traffic on and around campus, and impacts to parking throughout the day. We encourage all members of the Temple community to use public transportation to travel to and from campus if that is an option.

The following buildings will be closed all day Tuesday.

  • Pearson Hall
  • McGonigle Hall
  • The Independence Blue Cross Rec Center
  • Aramark Student Training And Recreation (ASTAR) Center (including the fitness center)

Any department or class scheduled to use any of these buildings has already been contacted directly.

The following traffic and parking changes will be in effect on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

  • Montgomery Avenue will be closed between Broad Street and 16th Street.
  • The Liacouras Garage and 15th Street Lot will be closed.
    • All overnight parkers in the Liacouras Garage can move their vehicle to the Temple Towers Lot by 5 AM Tuesday.
    • Any car parked in the Liacouras Garage by 5 a.m. Tuesday morning (including overnight parkers) will not be able to exit until the event concludes later Tuesday evening. No car will be able to enter or exit either facility throughout the entire day.
    • Any Guaranteed or Flex parkers assigned to the Liacouras Garage or the 15th Street Lot will be reassigned to the Montgomery Garage.
  • We expect all university parking lots and garages to be at full capacity.

If you are driving to campus on Tuesday, please allow for extra time to account for increased traffic and potential delays getting into lots and garages.
Once again, we want to note that we encourage the use of public transportation to travel to and from campus on Tuesday if that is an option.

Sincerely,

Ken Kaiser
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
