UAA College of Health 'Be the Match Drive'

UAA's College of Health is partnering with Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, to host a registry drive on the Anchorage campus on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Cuddy Quad. Stop by for live music, food trucks and more.

The event raises awareness for blood disorders such as blood cancer, sickle cell and other deadly diseases that a blood stem cell donation could potentially cure. The drive will set up a bone marrow registry that anyone on the UAA campus (faculty, staff and students) can sign up for to match with potential recipients, increasing their chances of receiving a bone marrow transplant. Attendees will have their cheeks swabbed at the event and can confirm registration via email.

Along with providing awareness and creating the bone marrow registry, the event is being organized and attended by UAA College of Health members impacted by Be The Match, including a previous physical therapist assistant faculty member who received two bone marrow transplants.
