VA’s Rural Scholars Fellowship promotes Promote rural health care

The Rural Scholars Fellowship (RSF) offers primary care providers-physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants-an amazing opportunity to become leaders in rural health care at VA and to develop the solutions for the challenges facing rural Veterans.

The RSF offers participants a full-time salary and part-time patient load, providing protected time for immersive experiences, mentorship, coursework, training and support to address the unique health care challenges faced by Veterans living in rural communities.

The RSF is a competitive fellowship and is open to physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. However, other specialties may be considered on a case-by-case basis, provided that participants are engaged in some facet of primary care.

During the two-year fellowship, participants divide work time between rural clinical practice and fellowship activities, which include leadership training and virtual sessions in health care improvement and innovation.
