Never again! – BVB participate in Remembrance Day in German football

Every year, Borussia Dortmund takes part in the "Remembrance Day in German Football", which commemorates the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp on 27 January 1945 and the victims of the Holocaust. BVB will be observing Remembrance Day under the motto "#WeRemember" with various activities organised around the match against VfL Bochum.

For several years now, the DFL Foundation has supported the "Never again!" initiative and the "Remembrance Day in German Football" around 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp. All clubs in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 are called upon to take part in the commemorations on matchday.

Borussia Dortmund have long been committed to fighting anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination. To mark this year's Remembrance Day, the study "Borussia Dortmund during the National Socialist era 1933-1945" was presented at the BORUSSEUM on Thursday evening. In 2020, BVB had announced that it would commission academic research into the club's role during the National Socialist era. Historians Rolf Fischer and Katharina Wojatzek then investigated the actions of officials and players on the basis of all surviving documents and have now published the results of the study.

On Friday, Borussia Dortmund laid a wreath at the former Dortmund-Süd railway station in memory of the Jewish people who were deported from Dortmund. The station was the starting point for four of the five deportations from Dortmund; more than 1,000 Dortmund citizens were deported from here.

Borussia Dortmund's first-team players will wear a "#WeRemember" patch on their shirts for the match against VfL Bochum. This is in memory of the 1,973 Jewish people from Dortmund who were murdered in the Holocaust. Fans can also receive the patch free of charge when purchasing a current shirt in the online shop. In addition, the team will make their match-worn shirts with a special #WeRemember patch available for auction via the MatchWornShirt platform. The proceeds from the auction will then go to the BVB foundation "leuchte auf" and will support projects focussing on anti-discrimination (e.g. promoting the "90 minutes against the right" project).

The management team, coaching staff, players, fans, members and BVB employees made a video together to send an important signal against forgetting and in defence of remembrance.
