Gallego Announces $41.5 Million to Combat Veteran Homelessness in Arizona

PHOENIX - Today, Rep. Ruben Gallego (AZ-03) announced that roughly $41,568,000 in federal funding is coming to Arizona to support homeless and at-risk veterans. The funding comes via the Department of Veterans Affairs's (VA) Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) and Homeless Providers Grant and Per Diem (GPD) programs.

"No one who served our nation in uniform should have to worry about having a safe place to call home. That's why I am proud to have helped secure this funding to provide homeless and at-risk Arizona veterans with the housing and support services they need and deserve," said Rep. Gallego. "As a veteran myself, I have a unique understanding of the challenges our veterans face, and I will continue fighting on behalf of those who have sacrificed for our freedom."

Through the SSVF program, the VA awards grants to community organizations that help rapidly rehouse Veterans and their families, prevent the imminent loss of Veterans' homes, or identify more suitable housing situations. The following organizations with operations in Arizona will receive funding under today's announcement:

In addition, U.S.VETS will receive $1,742,948 through the GPD program to support 20 transitional housing beds for women and elderly veterans.

Rep. Gallego helped secure the funding announced today as part of the annual government funding bill.

This funding is in addition to previous Community Project Funding Rep. Gallego secured for Arizona veterans, including $2.8 million to construct 35 tiny homes in South Phoenix to provide permanent, supportive housing for veterans experiencing homelessness and $1.5 million for U.S.VETS to update and renovate its transitional housing building.
