Central Illinois Emergency Expo

The public is invited to join local first responder agencies at the Central Illinois Emergency Expo on Thursday, July 25 at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie from 4-7 p.m. Numerous local emergency response agencies and offices will display their vehicles and equipment in the parking lot between Dick's Sporting Goods and IL Route 91 during the touch-a-truck event. Families are invited to explore vehicles, talk with professional first responders, and try on gear during this free community event.

Emergency equipment featured at the main Emergency Expo will include multiple fire engines and apparatuses, a medical helicopter, police cruisers and armored vehicles, rescue boats, and much more! Please see the following the end of the release for participating agencies and the attached map.

Sensory Sensitivity Hour - New in 2024

New this year is a Sensory Sensitivity Hour, from 2:30-3:30 p.m., designed to be a smaller event with limited lights and sounds. This event will be set up at the north end of Dick's parking lot, separate from the main Emergency Expo event.

Children, teens, and adults are all welcome to attend the Sensory Sensitivity Hour and have one-on-one interactions with police, fire, and EMTs. Law enforcement will walk teen and adult participants through a mock traffic stop, or children can see how a firefighter puts on their specialized clothing and what they look like in full gear. Everyone is welcome to get inside the ambulance, police vehicles, and fire engines.

The Emergency Communications Center will have details on the 9-1-1 Premise Alert Program, too. An American Sign Language interpreter will be on site, and ear protection will be available to borrow.

The Sensory Sensitivity Hour is made possible through the assistance of Advocates for Access, Peoria County Sheriff's Office, Peoria Police Department, Advanced Medical Transport, Peoria Fire Department, Dunlap Fire District, Emergency Communications Center, and Peoria County Emergency Management Agency.
