For the eighth year in a row, students from Baruch College's Zicklin School of Businesshave been awarded scholarships from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), a Washington D.C. nonprofit established by Congress to oversee audits of public companies.

Accounting Undergraduates Yulia Dmitrenko(BBA, '24), Giavanna Genna (BBA, '24), and Marisita Pellumbaj (BBA, '25) were among 676 students from across the country who were named PCAOB Scholars for the 2024-2025 academic year. The scholarship program, which is funded by fines imposed by the PCAOB in its enforcement actions, benefits outstanding students who are likely to become accountants and auditors.

The three women each won $15,000, a considerable increase from last year's $10,000 award. Yulia and Giavanna have enrolled in the Master of Science in Accountancy program at the Zicklin School and are using the scholarship funds to defray costs. "After I finish my master's, I hope to get a position as an auditor and maybe transition into the forensic field," Yulia said.

Marisita, a transfer student, hopes to complete her BBA by spring 2025 and continue her path towards a CPA license by enrolling in a master's in accountancy program.

"We are thankful to the PCAOB for once again including Baruch in this program," observedZeljko Sockovic, lecturerand student advisor in the Stan Ross Department of Accountancy, who nominated the studentson behalf of his department. "We have many excellent, hardworking accounting students who are well deserving of their scholarship.Congrats to Yulia, Giavanna, and Marisita on this year's awards!"
