BOROUGH PRESIDENT GIBSON’S STATEMENT ON FENTANYL DISCOVERY INSIDE BELMONT APARTMENT BUILDING THAT HOUSES TWO DAYCARE CENTERS

"We have been made aware of a deeply alarming discovery of 12 kilograms of fentanyl found inside an apartment building in Belmont, which also houses two day-care centers in our borough. This shocking find not only underscores the overwhelming threat fentanyl poses but also serves as a grim reminder of the opioid crisis that continues to devastate lives and poison our neighborhoods."

"Fentanyl is a silent killer, and its presence in our community is a stark and urgent warning. It highlights the immediate danger that fentanyl and other dangerous opioids present to the health and safety of our residents, particularly our most vulnerable children and families. It is critical that we intensify our efforts to combat this epidemic through prevention, education, and expanding access to naloxone."

"As we await further information regarding this case, we remain committed to working alongside our community partners, colleagues in government, law enforcement, and health professionals to ensure the safety and well-being of all our children and families. We are grateful to our law enforcement agencies for their swift and effective action in removing this deadly substance from our neighborhoods. We will keep our community updated as we get more information."
