SC4 Hosts Third Annual Naturalization Ceremony

The SC4 Fieldhouse was the host site for a naturalization ceremony on Tuesday, September 17. The event was in conjunction with Constitution Day activities, which are held annually on campus as part of a Department of Education requirement for students. This is the third year SC4 has worked in collaboration with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services team to host a naturalization ceremony. The ceremony is the culmination of the naturalization process to become a U.S. citizen, which can take several years to complete. This year's ceremony welcomed one-hundred and fifty new U. S. citizens from forty-two different countries.

"SC4 knows that a strong and vibrant community is essential to the success of the entire region. Whether you are an SC4 Student, a local elementary schooler visiting the Challenger Center, or just starting your journey as an American, SC4 makes it a priority to provide opportunities for everyone to grow," said U.S. Senator Gary Peters. "I'm proud to be a partner in their efforts, and I join them in congratulating and welcoming these newest American citizens to Michigan."

SC4 strives to produce excellent academic minds as well as students who are actively involved in their community. By providing opportunities like the Constitution Day celebration and naturalization ceremony, the college works to equip students to engage in their community, workplace and academic institutions.

"Becoming a citizen in the United States is more than an abstract discussion at SC4," said SC4 president Kirk Kramer. "It is an experience witnessed through a general naturalization ceremony on our campus. We celebrate with the new citizens of the United States and cherish hosting the event on our campus. At SC4, educational opportunities extend into events and activities which bring classroom discussions to life."
