Today, December 12, 2024, around 11:15 am Boise Fire and Boise Police responded to a vehicle fire near W. Irving St. and N. Manville St. Upon arrival, fire crews found a truck fully engulfed in flames, and crews extinguished the fire. Sadly, a two-year-old girl, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, died in the fire.
Two adults, a mother and father, were outside the vehicle when the fire started and were able to rescue two additional children, a 10-month-old and a 4-year-old who were also in the car. Those two children and the two adults were all taken to a local hospital for injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and at this time appears to be accidental.
"I want to express our heartfelt condolences to the family who tragically lost their child in this devastating vehicle fire. Our thoughts are with you in this incredibly difficult time. We also send our strength and well wishes to the family members who are recovering in the hospital. Please know that you are in our hearts, and we are here to support you," said Boise Fire Chief Mark Niemeyer.
The Ada County Coroner will release the identity of the victim pending proper notifications.
