LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 7, 2024 - The Molina Healthcare Charitable Foundation ("MolinaCares"), in collaboration with
Passport by Molina Healthcare ("Passport"), donated $25,000 to the
Rita June Foundation, Inc. to support its efforts to combat food insecurity through the organization's pantry program. The MolinaCares funding is the largest donation ever for the Louisville-based pantries. The donation will purchase 9500 pounds of food.
According to Feeding America's most recent data, nearly
102,000 individuals were considered food insecure in 2022 in Jefferson County. That's up from 77,700 in 2021, marking a 31% increase in just one year. From 2019 to 2023, the price of food
rose by 25%. To address the growing need the Rita June Foundation, started by
LDG Development, Inc., opened five strategically-located pantries in affordable housing properties across Louisville, stocked solely by the donations of the company's employees.
"We're excited to partner with the Rita June Foundation to help grow its food pantries combat the hunger crisis in Louisville," said Ryan Sadler, plan president of Passport by Molina Healthcare. "Passport is committed to the health and well-being of the communities it serves, not only by providing high-quality health care, but by supporting community organizations addressing determinants of health like food access."
"The Rita June Foundation is honored to partner with MolinaCares to combat hunger in Louisville," said Lisa Dischinger, board chair of the Rita June Foundation. "This grant will help ensure many Louisvillians and their families have access to nutritious meals that support an active and vibrant life that enriches our entire community."
In addition to its programs targeting food insecurity, the Rita June Foundation offers shelter and permanent housing through the foundation's Arthur Street Hotel, as well as promoting education through after-school-clubs, tutoring, summer camps, and financial aid programs.
