The Ethics Bowl Team at Georgia Tech took first place at the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Mid-Atlantic Regional, held Nov. 9 at the University of North Georgia-Gainesville campus.

The team secured first place out of 20 teams, boasting an impressive 6-0 record. This victory marks the first time Georgia Tech has won its regional competition since the team's founding. The team defeated the University of Georgia in the first round and overcame last year's national champions, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in the second round.

Ethics Bowl competitions challenge students to engage in deep ethical reflection on a variety of issues, including AI development, research practices, animal welfare, climate policy, and medical decision-making. Participants are provided with case studies ahead of the competition and must explore the ethical dimensions of these cases in a competitive setting.

"The team's success not only highlights our dedication and skill, but it also exemplifies Georgia Tech students' commitment to progress, service, and ethical practice," said Justin Bowen, a psychology major and secretary for the team.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional win earns the team a spot at the national competition this spring in Norfolk, Virginia. The team will also compete in the Bioethics Bowl and the Ethics in Engineering Case Competition next semester.
