Fort Worth is tackling the digital divide by improving internet access in lower-income neighborhoods, ensuring everyone can benefit from online resources like education, job searches and telemedicine.

What's happening:

  • The City launched a wireless internet service in five neighborhoods: Stop Six, Ash Crescent, Northside, Rosemont and Como. This program provides crucial connectivity to residents who previously lacked reliable internet access.
  • Partnering with Sprocket Networks, the City aims to bring high-speed fiber internet to more areas over the next three years. Sprocket Networks is building a fiber network over three years to connect city locations and neighborhoods lacking internet.
  • Public feedback was collected at the TX BDO Industry Roundtable on July 30.

By the numbers:

  • 5 neighborhoods: Already receiving wireless internet.
  • 3 years: Timeline to complete the high-speed fiber network.

What's next: Staff are developing a new Digital Navigator's Program to help residents access devices, affordable internet and digital skills training.

The bottom line: Fort Worth is committed to bridging the digital divide, ensuring that all residents have access to essential online services and opportunities.
