Georgia DOT awards $104.3 million in construction contracts in June

ATLANTA In June 2023, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded a total of 13 projects valued at approximately $104,342,160.94.

The largest single investment, worth approximately $78 million, is a reconstruction project that will widen and reconstruct the existing diamond interchange on US 278/I-20/SR 402 at SR 20 in Rockdale County. This contract represents 82 percent of the awarded funds.

There were six projects awarded for bridge construction and roundabouts in various parts of the state. The largest of these projects, valued at approximately $4.8 million, involves the construction of 0.422 miles of a bridge and approaches on Honey Creek Road over Snapping Shoals Creek in Rockdale County. The second-largest bridge construction project involves 0.182 miles of construction of a bridge and approaches on Post Road (CR 299) over Hurricane Creek in Jeff Davis County, with a contract value of approximately $2.4 million. These contracts and four other bridge construction contracts represent 13 percent of the awarded funds.

There was one construction project representing 4 percent, or approximately $4 million, of the awarded funds. This project involves the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of SR 37 and SR 76 in Cook County.

The remaining 1 percent is allotted for one bridge rehabilitation project in Banks, Gwinnett, and Hall counties.

In June, a Design-Build project was awarded to Lumin8 Transportation Technologies, LLC / Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., worth approximately $2.6 million. This project will design, construct, and install three dynamic message signs (DMS) with concrete poles and closed-circuit television camera units at or near each location, along with associated cabinets, pull boxes, and supporting ITS infrastructure in Bartow, Crisp, and Harris counties. The June awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2024 to $2.6 billion. This total includes TIA, Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2024 began July 1, 2023.
