Natchitoches Junior High JAG students explore media careers at NSU
Twenty-seven eighth graders from Natchitoches Junior High's Jobs for America's Graduates (JAG) program visited Northwestern State University's Department of New Media, Journalism, and Communications Arts for an engaging seminar day Sept 13. During the visit, students showcased their commercials to professors Dr. Jessica Zhang, department head, and Jennifer Johnson, receiving feedback on their projects. The students also enjoyed hands-on experiences with modern TV studio technologies, including a green screen activity led by David Antilley, director of NSU-TV, where they played with 'invisible cloaks' to see only their heads on screen.
James Stanfield, NSU's coordinator of ESPN productions, hosted a presentation for Natchitoches Junior High JAG students, highlighting his work with ESPN+ how the platform operates with real-time facts and images. The day included a tour of KNWD radio station, where student media leaders Kathlyn Jensen and Victoria Rodrigue demonstrated their work and gave the students a behind-the-scenes look. JAG program leader Jacquelyn Rainwater expressed her gratitude to the NSU department and plans to enter the students' work into future competitions.
