Change in traffic pattern scheduled on US 59 in Panola County this week

As construction progresses on an overpass at the intersection of US 59 and FM 1794 in Panola County, TxDOT is alerting motorists to a planned change in traffic pattern in this area.

Starting this Wednesday, August 21, traffic in both directions on US 59 near FM 1794 will be diverted onto new frontage roads as work begins on the overpass. "The frontage roads will consist of two travel lanes in both directions while motorists on FM 1794 will continue to stop at the intersection," said TxDOT Marshall Area Engineer Jacob Vise.

Message boards are in place with information about the upcoming change, and motorists are encouraged to use caution around this area as everyone adjusts to the new traffic pattern.

Work to construct an overpass at this intersection got underway last year and is expected to be complete in 2025.

"This new interchange will be a grade separation, meaning an overpass will take traffic on US 59 up and over FM 1794 when the project is complete," said Vise. "This will improve traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection north of Carthage." The 1.4-mile project includes short frontage roads.
