GULF BREEZE, Fla. - The Fort Pickens Area, including the campground, and the Opal Beach Complex within Gulf Islands National Seashore remain closed until further notice due to storm surge from Hurricane Helene.

The rest of visitor use areas within the Gulf Islands National Seashore Florida and Mississippi Districts are open.

"Multiple areas within the Florida district accumulated several inches of standing water and sand from over wash on the Fort Pickens and Santa Rosa (J. Earle Bowden) roadways," said Superintendent Rick Clark. "Our crews are currently working to remove sand and hazards, as well as completing post-storm condition assessments to ensure the safest environment for park visitors and staff."
