Fall Festival and Open House for Seniors Set For Tuesday, October 15

Now in its third year, the Indianola Fall Festival and Open House on Oct. 15 aims to connect seniors with valuable community resources. Jamie Michelsen, event organizer and recreation coordinator with Indianola Parks and Recreation, said it's designed to help individuals discover and engage with information and resources that can benefit themselves, a parent or a loved one at this stage of life.

"I think people will be surprised at the many different resources available in our community," Michelsen said. "There aren't many opportunities to collect this much information all in one place."

Featuring more than 20 vendors, participating organizations and businesses will showcase their services that range from transportation and essential needs to home care and retirement living. Along with door prizes and giveaways, a new change this year is that the event will be split into two convenient sessions at 2-3:30 p.m. and 5-6:30 p.m.

"We heard from people who were unable to come to an afternoon event but would have benefited from one in the evening," Michelsen said. "We also had so many vendors in the room at one time last year that it was almost too crowded for visitors."

With a wide range of services and resources available, navigating the landscape of senior care can be overwhelming. But events like the Indianola's Fall Festival and Open House can help simplify this process.

"Events like this showcase the power of community, highlight the importance of accessibility and education and create awareness of the support networks available," Michelsen said. "By bringing together local organizations and resources, we're empowering our seniors to thrive and live their best lives.
