Transy Athletics to celebrate new Pioneer Hall of Fame inductees at December reception

Transylvania University Athletics has announced this year's inductees into the Pioneer Hall of Fame.

Former basketball Pioneers Eric Liedtke '01 and Richard Skaggs '69 along with tennis standout Kelsey Fulkerson Tereshko '12 will be inducted at a reception Saturday, Dec. 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the William T. Young Campus Center. Register to attend here (the cost is $25 per person).

Sherry Holley '88, president of the Pioneer Club Advisory Council, commended this year's inductees. "They embody the spirit of competitiveness and the excellence of our university as they continue to pass on the light," she said.

Liedtke, who's also a member of the Oldham County High School Hall of Fame, was the Pioneers' second-leading scorer on the first Transylvania team ever ranked No. 1 in the nation. He set program records for three-pointers in a season (110) and career (296). Overall, Liedtke is the school's 16th top scorer with 1,523 points, and he was named a Third Team NAIA All-American his senior year.

Three decades earlier, Skaggs helped the Pioneers qualify for the NCAA playoffs in what was then the Small Colleges division. Skaggs, who played under Hall of Fame coaches C.M. Newton and Lee Rose, went on to be an acclaimed coach himself at the high school and college levels. He served as assistant coach at Evansville, Rice, TCU and Kentucky State. Skaggs also played tennis at Transylvania.

During Tereshko's time at Transylvania, she led her tennis team to NCAA tournament appearances in 2010 and 2012. A Lexington Dunbar High School graduate, she was one of the most decorated tennis players ever for the Pioneers. Tereshko was the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008 and made First Team All-HCAC in each of her four seasons. She also became the program's first women's tennis player to earn the HCAC's Most Valuable Player award in 2010 (repeating in 2011) - and she was named the Transylvania women's Athlete of the Year in 2011 and 12.
