OTE Group: Unveiling of New Museum in downtown Athens

- New Museum of over 5,000 m2, with halls for both permanent and touring exhibitions, event rooms, educational spaces, a restaurant etc.
- To be housed in part of the historical YMA-NYMA building at 85 Patision Street
- Initiatives and actions in perpetual support of culture

On the recent occasion of World Telecommunications Day and International Museum Day, OTE Group announced its decision to establish a New Museum, up to international standards and in full compliance with the requirements of sustainability, in downtown Athens. The New Museum will be housed in a space of over 5,000 m2 in part of the historic YMA-NYMA (Athens Intercity Building - New Athens Intercity Building) complex; more precisely, in the YMA building at 85 Patision Street. The project will be managed by OTEestate, an OTE Group subsidiary, in cooperation with Group teams and external partners.
The New Museum will be open and accessible to all, with both in-person and remote capabilities, ready to take visitors on an educational journey into the past, the present, and the future of technology and telecommunications.

"The New Museum will not just display objects; it will be a museum of experiences. A monument to innovation where visitors can learn about the history of telecommunications and the crucial role of OTE Group. The New Museum will safeguard this history, and also shape the digital future and a better world for all," said Michael Tsamaz, ΟΤΕ Group's Chairman and CEO.

Support for culture "guided" by sustainable development

The New Museum, which will function as a cultural landmark and point of reference in Athens and a catalyst for local development, is part of OTE Group's Sustainability strategy. OTE Group's Sustainability strategy is a key priority, fully in line with that of the Telekom Group. Other cultural initiatives OTE Group has undertaken include the installation of modern network infrastructure and free WiFi at archaeological sites and museums, COSMOTE HISTORY HD, the only documentary channel dedicated exclusively to Greece and its history, with over 930 hours of TV programming, and the innovative COSMOTE CHRONOS app that allows users to experience first-hand the splendour of the Acropolis as it was in Athens' golden age.
"Our strategic choice to support Greece's culture and history is part of our ambition to be the leading digital service provider focused on Sustainable Development. Our decision to establish a New Museum in the heart of Athens for future generations to enjoy shows our commitment to this goal," Mr Tsamaz stressed.

This is not the first museum established by OTE Group. The Group opened its Telecommunications Museum in Nea Kifisia in 1990, where visitors can see important collections closely related to the history of OTE itself and Greek telecommunications and understand how they are interwoven with the evolution of Greek society. Concurrently, the museum supports educational, entertainment and creative initiatives through free educational programmes and tours for schools and families, using new technologies and modern digital media. The OTE Group Telecommunications Museum is a company technological museum that is the only one of its kind in Greece and one of the few in Europe.

"Over the past 34 years, OTE Group has responsibly managed its corporate heritage as a pioneer in the Greek telecommunications sector through the operation of our Telecommunications Museum. The New Museum will be a new chapter in this heritage and a meeting point in the heart of Athens. Capitalising on modern technologies and practices, it will highlight the technologies of yesterday, today and tomorrow, marking a new era. An era that will bridge the legacy of the past with the sustainable technology of the future," commented Deppie Tzimea, OTE Group's Corporate Communications & Sustainability Executive Director.

The architectural firm Kokkinou - Kourkoulas Architects and Associates has been entrusted with the architectural study for the museum, while the museological study is being carried out by the architect-museologist Erato Koutsoudaki. Both studies are currently in progress. Upon completion, the New Museum is expected to house a multi-purpose hall, restaurant, cafeteria and event and educational spaces on the ground floor, in addition to the halls for the permanent and touring exhibitions.
