Sen. Marshall Slams Google’s Response After The Search Engine Defends Censorship, Calling Assassination Attempt a “Hypothetical”

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. released the following statement after Google's inadequate response to his letter demanding answers for the company's suppression of search terms related to the assassination attempt against President Trump on July 13.

In their response, Google defended its suppression of the assassination attempt searches by classifying the shooting as a "hypothetical act of political violence" for two weeks after President Trump was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania. The largest search engine in the world determined that the assassination attempt that left President Trump within centimeters of losing his life should be classified as a 'hypothetical' and thus explaining the weeks-long period of suppressing these searches is egregious.

"Google is now openly admitting that they were blocking and eliminating search prompts regarding the assassination attempt on President Trump," Senator Marshall said. "Most shocking is their bizarre written defense that Trump's assassination attempt was a 'hypothetical act of political violence' even up to the point of our public inquiry on July 28th."

"Google is a monopolistic agent of propaganda for the globalist Left. In response to this letter, I am demanding that Google's top executives testify under oath before the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee."

"Under oath, they won't be able to hide behind an algorithm or get away with corporate double-speak," Senator Marshall continued. "We are launching a full investigation into Google's litany of offenses, time for accountability and consequence."

Senator Marshall is pursuing a full investigation and calling on Google's leadership to testify before the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee to address their blatant bias and repeated history of discrimination towards conservative viewpoints.

Background:

• On July 28, Senator Marshall was the first U.S. Senator to sound the alarm on X that Google was, in fact, suppressing the search results associated with the assassination attempt on President Trump.
• On July 31, Senator Marshall sent a letter to Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer of Google, demanding answers for his company's suppression of search terms related to the assassination attempt against President Trump on July 13 and announced that he would be Leading an Investigation into Google's Censorship.
• On August 12th, Google's Vice President of Government Affairs for the U.S. and Canada, Mark Isakowitz, replied to Senator Marshall's letter, stating that [Google's] systems are designed to prohibit Autocomplete suggestions for hypothetical political violence against current figures…in the aftermath of the horrific events in Butler, PA, these systems were still in place and predictions related to the assassination attempt failed to appear. [Google] recognize[s] that these out-of-date systems led to an inadequate user experience."
