BROWN ANNOUNCES NEW PATROL VEHICLES AND EQUIPMENT, TRAINING, AND RETENTION PROGRAMS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT IN SUMMIT, STARK, LORAIN, AND CUYAHOGA COUNTIES

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced four investments to purchase new patrol vehicles and hire, train, and retain law enforcement officers throughout northeast Ohio. The investments were awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance.

"These awards will allow law enforcement in cities across the region to keep our streets safe, and are a critical investment in safety and resources for the men and women who devote their lives to protecting Ohioans," Brown said.

Investments for Northeast Ohio law enforcement include:

  • $963,000 to the Summit County Sheriff's Office to purchase six new patrol vehicles for the Sheriff's office and fourteen new patrol vehicles for 12 local police departments. Police Departments in Summit County that will acquire one new patrol vehicle include the Village of Boston Heights Police Department, Village of Lakemore Police Department, Village of Mogadore Police Department, City of Munroe Falls Police Department, City of New Franklin Police Department, City of Norton Police Department, Village of Peninsula Police Department, Sagamore Hills Township Police Department, Springfield Township Police Department, and the City of Tallmadge Police Department. The Stark County Sheriff's Office and the City of Canton Police Department will each receive an investment to purchase two new vehicles.
  • $963,000 to Cuyahoga Community College to purchase new equipment to enhance its Public Safety Training Center and advance police training offerings, including enhanced training in crime scene investigation, traffic accident investigation, search and rescue, active shooter response, and de-escalation.
  • $931,000 to the City of Lorain to establish the "Staffing Assistance for Effective Retention (SAFER) Lorain" Program. The program will provide recruitment and retention resources to help the Lorain Police Department reach its authorized staffing level. A fully staffed department will be better equipped to protect the community.
  • $529,000 to the City of Brooklyn to purchase new patrol vehicles.
