A&M-Texarkana forms new Academic Partnership with Cass County, Texas

TEXARKANA, Texas - Texas A&M University-Texarkana has announced a new partnership with Cass County, Texas that will allow county employees to receive discounted tuition towards classes at the university. The partnership benefit includes a tuition discount for full-time employees and is applicable to both degree and non-degree seeking programs. The partnership was finalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on August 13, 2024, at the Cass County Commissioner's Court in Linden, Texas.

The tuition discount is applicable to programs of all academic levels, including baccalaureate, graduate, certificate, and micro-credential. Classes are available in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats and there is no fee needed to apply. In addition to the tuition discount, any eligible employee who is a new student at the university enrolling in at least 6 credit hours of undergraduate or graduate coursework is eligible to receive the First Flight Scholarship, which allows them to take their first class free of charge.

"We are pleased to announce that we have entered into a community partnership with the hard-working employees of Cass, County, Texas," said Texas A&M University-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander. "Government employees, including many first responders, are the lifeblood of a community. They spend their workday in service of their constituents, and we are proud to help them as they work towards academic goals that will help further their careers."

"Our partnership with A&M-Texarkana not only makes pursuing higher education accessible but also reinforces our commitment to the professional development of our employees," said Cass County Judge Travis Ransom. In partnering with Texas A&M-Texarkana, Cass County is demonstrating an innovative way to encourage and support County employees to upskill and seek higher education. Cass County has a rich heritage and a bright future!"

The new partnership is effective immediately and the benefits can be used for the Fall 2024 semester which begins August 26, 2024. Registration is currently open, and staff members are ready to assist with the enrollment process.

Employees wishing to take advantage of the new partnership must meet the admissions standards of the program to which they apply and must remain in good academic standing.
