Expand Into New Markets With Confidence Using Enhanced Network and Service Visibility

Broadband services today aren't limited to the subscriber's home. Broadband service providers (BSPs) are deploying systems across various environments, from small businesses to multi-dwelling units (MDUs) to outdoor Wi-Fi that serves the community. To effectively manage the subscriber experience, operations teams require full network and service visibility regardless of where or how services are deployed.

Fortunately, the Calix Broadband Platform allows operations teams to use the same workflows, automation, and insights regardless of the deployment scenario. This enables operations teams to implement consistent network health and service performance monitoring. If a system is down, or if performance is degraded, operations teams receive real-time alerts, notifications, and reports so they can isolate problems and implement fixes faster than ever before.

Unlocking Network Insights Using Advanced Geo-Mapping

At Calix, we continually add new features to tools, such as Calix Operations Cloud, to make network health monitoring faster and more efficient. For example, BSPs using SmartTown™ can now use Operations Cloud to gain visibility into their SmartTown deployments using new geo-mapping features. These provide:

  • A visual overview of all optical network terminals (ONTs) connected in the SmartTown deployment, along with their current status-allowing operations teams to quickly isolate issues.

  • A list view of the specific systems (ONTs and gateways) being used in the SmartTown deployment with the ability to access more detailed information in Calix Service Cloud with a single click.

  • Instant filtering between different managed services within the SmartLife™ portfolio.

  • Proactive notifications for connected ONTs that have triggered specific alarms.

These new capabilities mean BSPs don't require an expensive truck roll to establish the source of the problem. Operations teams can now zero in on the ONT or gateway that needs attention and reboot remotely if needed.

Consider our customer Tombigbee Fiber. Last year, the Mississippi-based BSP introduced community Wi-Fi using SmartTown. This included connecting nine football fields across their footprint to enhance the Friday night football experience. With hundreds of gateways, in-person troubleshooting at the fields would take excessive time and resources. These new capabilities in Operations Cloud make management simple.

This is just the latest example of how the platform enables real-time network health monitoring, notifications, and alarm management across the network, wherever it is deployed. This means the operations team can boost operational efficiencies and reduce operating costs-even when launching exciting new managed services and entering new markets.
