WWU's Munro Institute to host two film screenings in October

October 16, 2024

WWU's Ralph Munro Institute for Civic Education will host a pair of 'Munro at the Movies' events, with screenings of "Majority Rules" and "Lynden" on Oct. 16 and 30, respectively. See below for more information on each screening.

Majority Rules

5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16 in Fraser Hall 201

Join the Munro Institute and Political Science Association as we watch "Majority Rules," a feature film about Alaska's decision to transform the way that voters choose candidates in elections. Disrupting the status quo "majority rules" system bucked against entrenched interests and wasn't without risks, but, advocates argue, it also created opportunities for new alliances and potentially, a new political consensus.

At the end of the film, Political Science faculty members Cathy Wineinger and Todd Donovan will talk with Fairvote Washington Director Lisa Ayrault and answer audience questions. Pizza, popcorn and drinks provided.

Lynden

5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in Arntzen 100

Join the Munro Institute and the Woodring College's Center for Education, Equity & Diversity to watch "Lynden," a film about race, community and democratic action in a small town just up the road; stay after the film is over to discuss it with the film's director, Bryan Tucker.

Popcorn and other refreshments provided.
