Inaugural Everson Community Day A Success

The event took place at the borough ball field and fairgrounds.

Uniontown, PA- The sun was shining and a breeze was blowing over the ball field/fairgrounds in Everson Borough Sunday - the perfect setting for the borough's first-ever community day.

"We were blessed with a beautiful day," said event organizer Jason Frazier, a borough council member. "Could we really have asked for a nicer day?"

Residents of Everson and the surrounding communities seemed to agree, as refreshment booths and informational tables were kept busy by the steady influx of visitors.

"I'm happy that there's definitely been a lot of people here," Frazier said. "I'm satisfied with the turnout."

Frazier first came up with the idea of a community day a couple of years ago as a way to give residents something to do within their own borough.

"I wanted to do this last year," he said before the event. "Everything goes on in Scottdale; everyone always goes to that side of the bridge. I thought it would be nice to have something here."

So, Frazier spoke to his fellow council members, as well as community organizations. Mayor Joseph Dugger and several council members were on hand to greet residents, and both the Everson Borough Police Department and the Everson Volunteer Fire Company attended the event as well. The police and fire departments brought along vehicles for a touch-a-truck experience, with kids even climbing into the driver's seat of the borough's new fire truck.

Face painting was provided by Cake Face, and Seth the Balloon Dude entertained the kids by making balloon objects.

Frazier said the sponsors really made the day possible. "We couldn't have done it without the donations."

Sponsors included Armstrong, Mongell Tire, Somerset Trust Company, Miss Martha's Floral, Sen. Pat Stefano, Scottdale Firemen's Club, Fraziers Sign Express, Fun-Fore-All, Turkey Hill, Washington Wild Things, Carson's, The Uber Co., Pittsburgh Zoo, Bayernhof Museum, Carnegie Science Center, DelGrosso Park, Councilperson Hope Peterson, Jason and Maria Frazier, Daniel Geary, Sarah Fissella, Brilhart's ACE

Hardware, HAW'T DOGS and HAW'T DOGS on the GO, Turn 4 Treats Concessions, Skowronek Lawn Care, Paula and Abie Welc, and Love of Pete.

Frazier said many businesses offered gift cards, and Fissella used them to put together baskets for a raffle. "That way, you're not just getting a gift card," he said.

Pittsburgh country band Junior Guthrie and the Push entertained the crowd.

Frazier said he plans on making the community day an annual event. He seems to have the mayor's support.

"I think it's a good event. It's good for the community to come out," Dugger said. "We had a pretty good crowd. People are always saying Everson doesn't do anything - well, this is the kickoff."
