Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kanaani has reacted to the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion on "the Legal Consequences arising from the Policies and Practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East al-Quds" that was issued on Friday.
Kanaani said the opinion reflects the deep concern of the international community about the violations and crimes committed by the Israeli regime.

He invoked the advisory opinion of the ICJ regarding the actions of the Zionist regime that violate international law, including describing as "illegal" the continuation of the occupation of the Palestinian territories, the settlement expansions in the Palestinian territories, and the violation of the rights of the Palestinians to exercise sovereignty over their natural resources, as well as the court's demand that Israel pay reparations to the Palestinians over the damage caused to them.
Kanaani further stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the oppressed Palestinian people's fundamental right to self-determination has been continuously violated over the past years, especially since the declaration of the existence of the child-killing regime of Israel, and continues. He noted that the violation of the rights of the Palestinian people is not limited to a specific period.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated that genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes in Gaza during the last few months have, in an organized manner, led to the continued violation of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination.

Kanaani then pointed to the existence of hundreds of international resolutions and documents that confirm the righteousness of the oppressed Palestinian people and said it is expected that the international community, especially the United Nations Security Council, will hold the leaders of the Zionist regime accountable and take practical steps to end the regime's aggression against the Palestinians and the illegal occupation of Palestine.

Kanaani also spoke about the Iranian delegation's position at the ICJ hearing sessions in March. He said the most effective solution to current illegal situation in occupied Palestine is the practical realization of the progressive idea of the Islamic Republic of Iran to hold a comprehensive referendum with the participation of all the main residents and citizens of Palestine, including Muslims, Jews and Christians.
