Student summer internship opportunity in Lyon, France

International experiences can be a life and career-altering event for many students. Exciting summer research positions are available through a new UAA grant-funded effort in Lyon, France during summer 2025.

Lyon is the capital of the Rhone-Alpes region, it has been described by many as the culinary capital of the world and is a European destination with rich history, warm weather, culture, food, and some of the world's finest scientific and engineering minds!

In this research internship opportunity, UAA is recruiting students who will travel to France for approximately 9 weeks to assist with research in the laboratory of an English-speaking professor. The approximate dates are May 19 - July 21. The thematic topic of this recruitment is "catalysis and the environment", focused at the intersection of environmental science, chemistry and engineering. The University of Lyon 1 is a large, 47,000 student campus that is a designated "science and engineering" emphasis school. Students can engage in cutting-edge research in a modern laboratory environment in a city with strong ties to industry, fundamental research, and a culture that encourages scientific and engineering pursuits. Students with an interest in a career in the STEM fields are especially encouraged to apply.

This program will provide many essential elements of a great foreign research experience, including:

  • Research mentorship from an available list of professors who have indicated they are willing to host students
  • French language lessons and social events
  • Airfare costs and student housing in Lyon
  • Metro pass, cell phone SIM card
  • International Health Insurance
  • $5,000 stipend

This opportunity is open to undergraduate students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year as of fall 2024 and graduate students in good academic standing. Strong preference will be given to students with prior research experience in a science or engineering discipline. No French language skills are required, but a willingness to learn is necessary. Personalized language lessons will be provided. UAA faculty will travel with you to help arrange your initial arrival logistics.
