The Blue Justice initiative celebrates 5 years!

Norway launched the "Blue Justice initiative" in 2019 in order to assist in the implementation of the International Declaration on Transnational Organized Crime in the Global Fishing Industry (Copenhagen Declaration). The initiative will assist countries in preventing fisheries crime internationally. The initiative is followed up by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and forms part of a collaboration with, among others, several Norwegian governmental agencies and international partners.

The cooperation is done, among other things, through an international vessel tracking center established in Vardø in 2021 and by using the digital interaction platform Blue Justice Community for secure state-to-state cooperation against fisheries crime. Blue Justice Community is Norwegian-developed and administered by the UN through UNDP. The Blue Justice initiative's tracking center is co-located with the joint analysis unit between the Directorate of Fisheries and the Coastal Administration at Vardø traffic centre.
