MCLEAN, VA - The National Park Service (NPS) has approved two projects that will improve connectivity and safety for people traveling to and from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and its surrounding areas.
The Crystal City to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (CC2DCA) multimodal connection project will create safer, more accessible pathways for pedestrians and cyclists traveling between Crystal City and DCA. The goal of the CC2DCA project is to improve connections for people traveling without cars between Crystal City and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). This will make it easier to walk, bike, or use other forms of public transportation, while also helping people switch between different travel modes such as biking to public bus or rail. It also supports local and regional plans to encourage greener transportation options. The National Park Service (NPS) worked with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) because the project requires permission to use land from the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
Additionally, the NPS has approved roadway improvements at DCA, which are designed to reduce traffic congestion, improve safety and the overall visitor experience. These upgrades will include better traffic flow, clearer signage, and expanded parking facilities to accommodate future needs.
Both projects reflect the NPS's commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity while safeguarding the environment. NPS acting Regional Director Lisa A. Mendelson signed Findings of No Significant Impact (FONSIs) confirming that the projects can proceed after thorough Environmental Assessments (EAs) were completed.
