Roxbury Drug Control Unit Arrests Suspect for Drug Trafficking

At about 1:19 PM, on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit of District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested Jaylin Hawkins, 29, of Boston, on drug charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Roxbury Street and Washington Street to address ongoing community complaints of illegal drug use. Officers observed two suspects walk towards each other and exchange an item with their right hands. Officers believed that the suspects engaged in a street level drug transaction.

Officers were able to stop one of the suspects and recovered a plastic bag of crack cocaine. Officers advised the suspect that he would be summoned to Roxbury District Court for Possession of Class B.

Officers began to canvass the area for the second suspect, but were unable to locate him. At about 5:50 PM, officers observed the suspect in the area of 2360 Washington Street and were quickly able to place him into handcuffs. As officers searched the suspect, they recovered a plastic bag of crack cocaine and $607 in U.S. currency.

During a booking search, officers recovered two small plastic bags and one large plastic bag with several bags inside of it, all of which contained crack cocaine. Officers later determined the seized drugs to weigh approximately 38 grams.

Hawkins was placed under arrest and charged with Trafficking of Class B, Distribution Class B, and Distribution of Class B Second Subsequent Offense. He is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
