Western introduces "Ask a Viking"

August 19, 2024

If you are an alum and you haven't updated your contact information lately, now is a great time to do it. Western students may soon be seeking you out for advice.

Western Washington University has recently released "Ask A Viking"-a new way for students to map out their careers, ask alumni for advice, and seek out mentorships and other professional development.

Any student can enter questions into a webform, and the system will privately and securely forward the questions to alumni who are relevant to the student's area of interest. For alumni, there is no login, no platform, no password to remember-the questions come in automatically and answering the emails is entirely up to the recipient.

The connection is facilitated through The Foundation for WWU & Alumni. Alumni are encouraged to update their contact information so students can connect. The Ask A Viking platform is safe, secure, and will maintain your privacy. Alumni are only contacted when there's a relevant need, so their time is protected, and there is no obligation to respond.

Not only is it a simple way to support WWU students, it's also a useful tool for connecting alumni who might want to contact other alums to find career advice, seek career changes, or just want to reconnect!

We are thrilled to offer 'Ask A Viking' to our students and alumni," said Kim O'Neill, President of the Foundation for WWU & Alumni at Western Washington University. "This tool is part of our ongoing commitment to leveraging technology to enhance student support and foster a strong, interconnected community. By connecting students with alumni, we are providing valuable opportunities for mentorship and professional growth." For more information about "Ask A Viking" and to get started, visit this link.
