September 4 weather update: Use caution on Thursday morning commute

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch that includes the City of Galveston and is in effect between now and Friday morning.

The National Weather Service is forecasting rain later this evening. Beginning Thursday at 1 a.m. until 6 a.m., we should expect to receive at least 1.5" of rain. Throughout the day Thursday and into Friday morning, the NWS is forecasting light rain with heavier bands off and on. The National Weather Service has reported that Galveston could receive 4-6" from now until Friday.

While the city is cleaning drains to the extent possible, we anticipate some street flooding during the overnight hours because the grounds are highly saturated. Please use caution during the morning commute Thursday morning and avoid driving in standing water.
