Georgia College & State University Department of Public Safety Monthly Safety Topic: December - Personal Safety and Theft Prevention
As the holiday season approaches, it's important to keep your safety and belongings secure. Unfortunately, the season of joy can also attract those looking to dampen your holiday cheer. Here are some practical tips to help you stay safe and prevent theft:
Secure your vehicle.
Always lock your car doors and windows when unattended.
Remove valuables and gifts from your car when possible. If this isn't feasible, store them out of sight, such as in the trunk.
Stay aware of your surroundings.
Practice situational awareness by being mindful of your environment and those around you.
Avoid distractions like excessive phone use while walking or shopping.
Lock it. Don't prop it.
Make it a habit to lock your doors and windows, especially in residence halls.
Avoid propping open doors, as this can compromise everyone's safety.
Celebrate and shop safely.
When out celebrating, shopping or enjoying activities, stick to the buddy system: Go out as a group, stay together and leave together.
Your safety is our priority. Enjoy the holiday season, and remember that GCSU DPS is here to assist you whenever you need us. Have a safe and happy holiday!
