Cape Coral Milton Recovery Update: Roadway Safety, Debris Removal, Unlicensed Contractors

The City of Cape Coral is dedicated to helping residents recover and restore normalcy after Hurricane Milton. As recovery efforts continue, the City remains focused on supporting the community and addressing critical needs.

Here's what you need to know today:

Emergency Management & Public Safety:

  • Power has been restored to all Cape Coral LCEC customers who can receive power.
  • City teams have completed more than 25,000 initial impact surveys and will begin working with impacted property owners to assist in the process of restoring their properties.
  • Public Works crews are inspecting bridges and stop signs across major roadways to ensure safe travel.

Permits for Hurricane Repairs:

  • Residents must pull permits for work on their homes to repair storm damage caused by Hurricane Helene and/or Hurricane Milton, per Florida state law.
  • If you are a City resident whose home is in the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA) and your home experienced water intrusion or sustained wind damage, the Development Services Department encourages you to send an email to [email protected]as soon as possible.

Debris Removal:

  • Two citizen debris drop-off sites are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week until mid-November. Both sites will accept Construction & Demolition debris and vegetative waste from residents with proper ID. No commercial or contractors allowed.
  • 1821 Southwest 42nd Street (entrance off Southwest 19th Avenue.)
  • 1119 Northwest 31st Avenue (entrance off Northwest 28th Place.)

Waste Collection:

  • Waste Pro solid waste garbage collection will resume Monday, Oct. 14, on the normally scheduled day for all routes in Cape Coral. This collection is for household garbage only, which includes everyday trash items and all spoiled food.

Unlicensed Contractors:

  • Residents should verify a contractor's license before hiring them to do repairs. To check a license, visit myfloridalicense.com and click "Verify a License," or call the City's Licensing Division at 239-574-0613.
  • For a list of warning signs that your contractor is not licensed, click here.

Aqua Pod:

  • The aqua pod at Jim Jeffers Park is closed. This resource will be relocated to another area in need.

Parks and Recreation:

  • The following City parks are closed due to damage from Hurricane Milton:
    • Four Mile Cove
    • Strausser/BMX Park
  • All other City parks are partially open due to debris that crews are actively removing.
  • Coral Oaks is closed until further notice.
