Early Scholars Program Attracting Gifted Students to Enroll in ONU

Olivet's Early Scholars Program offers gifted high school juniors and seniors the unique opportunity to take classes alongside current undergraduate students, giving them a head start on their collegiate journey.

Launched five years ago, Early Scholars is experiencing rapid growth, increasing from 44 students in 2022 to 100 students this fall.

"We've been thrilled to see the program expand so quickly," says Tiffany Holohan, Director of the Early Scholars Program. "It's a testament to the value it brings both academically and personally for our students."

Supporting Student Success with Mentorship

An integral part of the Early Scholars Program is its peer mentorship initiative. Each high school student is paired with an upperclassman at Olivet who has successfully completed the program. These mentors provide guidance, answer questions, and offer personal insight into the college experience.

"Our peer mentors are invaluable to the success of our students," Holohan explains. "They help bridge the gap between high school and college by offering real-life advice on academics, time management, and campus life. The relationships they form provide an extra layer of support and community for our Early Scholars."

From Early Scholars to Full-Time Freshmen

Many students in the Early Scholars Program find their experience so enriching that they choose to continue their education at Olivet as full-time freshmen, with 65% of the Early Scholars who finished high school this spring enrolling as ONU Freshmen in for the fall 2024 semester.

"It's amazing to see how many students choose to stay with us after their dual enrollment experience," says Holohan. "They form strong connections with their peers and professors, and that sense of belonging makes a big difference."

On Campus, Online, Or Both

Early Scholars can take courses that fulfill high school graduation requirements while earning college credits at the same time.

"We give students the flexibility to choose the format that works best for them, whether it's on-campus, online, or a hybrid approach," Holohan explains. "Each student's experience is tailored to fit their schedule and academic goals."

For high school students eager to get ahead academically, Olivet's Early Scholars Program offers the ideal combination of academic challenge and support.

"We're committed to helping these students thrive both now and in the future," Holohan concludes. "It's not just about earning college credits-it's about preparing them for success in all aspects of life."
