The Greatest Upset

It was a sun-soaked Saturday afternoon when the Dores came out to play. With their team squaring off against the No. 1-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, Commodore fans squeezed into a sold-out FirstBank Stadium. Little did they know that on the fifth day of October, history was about to be made.

In what some are calling the biggest upset at this point in the college football season-and one of the biggest upsets in decades or even in college football history-the Vanderbilt Commodores trounced the Crimson Tide 40-35. Vandy, previously 0-10 against No. 1-ranked teams, experienced its first win over a top-five team.

Led by quarterback Diego Pavia, the Dores hit the ground running and led the Tide for the entire game.

The astronomical win sent Vanderbilt fans-those at the game and those at home-into a frenzy. Dore-mania poured onto the field, into the streets, and all over social media feeds, where it took over.

Students described the energy surrounding the victory as electric. After making it to the turf, fans climbed the goalpost in the south end zone, swinging and celebrating until it eventually succumbed to their weight.

Surreal, wild and incredible are words that perfectly sum up the energy of the evening.
