BOW program offering recreational shooting workshop

The Wisconsin Becoming an Outdoors - Woman (BOW) program is offering an "Introduction to Archery and Shotguns" workshop on Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Bill Cook Izaak Walton League property just east of Stevens Point.

This workshop is a safe and fun course that will introduce participants to recreational shooting with compound bows, crossbows, and shotguns. Participants will learn hands-on firearm safety handling and principles from certified, patient instructors. After becoming familiar with the different guns and bows available, participants will be coached one-on-one in shooting lessons.

No experience is necessary and all the equipment - bows, firearms, ammunition, ear and eye protection - will be provided. This workshop is designed for beginners but also appropriate for anyone who wants to brush up on their shooting skills. This is an excellent opportunity to learn to shoot in a safe environment with the support of other women.

The registration fee is $125 and includes lunch. There are just 9 spots available in this one-of-a-kind BOW-signature program designed specifically for women. To ensure your place in the event, call Peggy Farrell, 715-346-4681 to make a reservation today.

The Bill Cook Chapter of the Izaak Walton League consists of 147 acres of managed forest with the scenic Plover River passing through it. The Conservation Center has meeting space and modern restrooms.

Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshops focus on learning outdoor skills. Workshops are designed primarily for women and are learning opportunities for anyone 18 years and older. Participants range in age from 18-80+. BOW is a non-profit, outreach education program at UWSP and supported by the WI DNR.
