Contra Costa County, Marin County - Caltrans has started upgrading four electrical substations on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge between Contra Costa and Marin counties.
The work will include updating the electrical equipment in the substations and the electrical infrastructure along the five-mile stretch of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.
The project began in Spring 2024 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2025.
Motorists traveling on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge should reduce their speeds as the work will be happening year-round.
Lane reductions and bike lane closures are expected due to the project.

In March 2024, the paint project on the lower deck structure of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge was completed.
