Thomson, Ga. - Interstate 20 is scheduled to close in both directions between milepost 175 and milepost 183 on Sunday morning.

Jefferson Electric Cooperative has informed the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) of emergency utility work that must be performed near milepost 178 and the White Oak Road overpass. The utility company needs the interstate closed in both directions to perform this work.

On Sunday at 6 a.m., Georgia State Patrol will close I-20 to eastbound traffic at Exit 175, and westbound traffic at Exit 183. The utility company told Georgia DOT this work should take less than two hours.

Message boards are in place on I-20 east at milepost 168, and I-20 west at milepost 189 alerting drivers of this upcoming closure.
