Ministry of Economy and Kyndryl Mexico launch digital skills program for MSMEs

MEXICO CITY, August 5, 2024 - The Mexican Ministry of Economy and Kyndryl are launching the Digital Education program to help women, young people, indigenous Mexican communities, as well as micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) learn about and use digital tools and processes to promote sustainable economic growth.

In Mexico, MSMEs are an important driver of the economy, accounting for more than 52% of the Gross Domestic Product and generating more than 70% of the country's jobs, according to INEGI.

According to "El Diagnóstico Digital PyMEs Mexicanas 2024," published by the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Concanaco Servytur), MSMEs that have implemented digital processes increased their number of customers by up to 20%. However, only 15% have an effective digital strategy.

Through this collaboration, the Ministry and Kyndryl will offer an in-person workshop, at no cost, in Mexico City, highlighting best practices and case studies on modernization and digitization, cloud utilization, data readiness for AI implementation, as well as cybersecurity and resilience.

There will also be five virtual trainings on the Ministry of Economy's Facebook page, so that more MSMEs acquire vital skills to thrive in the digital economy and foster inclusive and sustainable economic development.

The head of the Global Economic Intelligence Unit of the Ministry of Economy, Irais Barreto, commented that, "Within the framework of the Policy to Promote MSMEs and through this program with Kyndryl, the aim is not only to reduce the digital divide but also to foster an environment in which MSMEs can prosper and contribute to Mexico's economic development."

For his part, the Managing Director of Kyndryl Mexico, Carlos Marcel, said he was excited to collaborate with the Ministry of Economy and use the transformative power of technology to drive progress at scale and contribute in areas of national importance.

"As part of our Social Impact priorities, Kyndryl is deeply committed to contributing to a more inclusive and resilient economy. This program will provide MSMEs with essential digitalization skills and empower them to take their businesses to the next level," he said.
