Congressman Carbajal Highlights $959,752 Federal Investment Improving Santa Maria Storm Drainage

Congressman Salud Carbajal joined Santa Maria Mayor Alice Patino to highlight the impact of the $959,752 in federal funds he secured earlier this year for storm drainage system upgrades in Santa Maria.

The upgrades, which will include new stormwater piping installations across the City, are critical to addressing flooding and protecting homes, businesses, and neighborhoods as heavy storms become more routine in the region.

"I am proud to have secured $959,752 for storm drainage improvements in Santa Maria," said Congressman Carbajal. "This funding will support the creation of new stormwater piping across our city, addressing flooding concerns and safeguarding our homes, businesses, and neighborhoods. As heavy storms become more frequent, these upgrades are essential to ensuring our community remains resilient and protected."

"This funding will fix multiple flood-prone locations in Santa Maria," said Mayor Patino. "Then we can finally repair those roadways to a higher standard like we've planned for years."

This funding will be used to enhance stormwater infrastructure in the area surrounding North Miller Street and East El Camino Street, a region that frequently experiences severe flooding during heavy rainstorms.

The project is set to begin in December of 2024.

Construction is expected to be completed by late spring 2025, followed by a period of final adjustments and system testing.
