Rep. Cuellar Announces the Authorization of a Flood Risk Management Study in Guadalupe County for the Santa Clara Creek Watershed

Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) announced the authorization of a Flood Risk Management Study in Guadalupe County for the Santa Clara Creek Watershed.

Congressman Cuellar secured language authorizing the project in this year's Water Resources Development Act. This language will authorize a flood risk management feasibility study between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a local non-federal sponsor in Guadalupe County.

"The safety of our community always comes first. I fought to secure this language to reduce the risk and severity of flooding damage to Santa Clara and Guadalupe County residents and infrastructure," said Dr. Cuellar. "Securing language to authorize this project is the first step in the process - I look forward to working with my colleagues across the aisle to ensure this bill becomes law. Thank you to Santa Clara Mayor Jeff Hunt, Guadalupe County Commissioner Stephen Germann, and Guadalupe County for working with me to address the recurring flood risk in Santa Clara."

This study will address flood risks and guide our next steps to improve flood resiliency in Guadalupe County.

Dr. Cuellar has fought to deliver for Guadalupe County. In the 2024 Unified Transportation Program, $577.9 million has been authorized for transportation projects in Guadalupe County, $450.7 million of which is federal funding. Additionally, he has secured over $206.3 million in federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for 13 transportation improvement projects in Guadalupe County.
