Traffic alert for Coliseum Boulevard entrance to main campus

With Monday's start of the fall semester rapidly approaching, there's a traffic alert the entire campus community must be aware of.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has begun work on what it's calling deck overlay preventive maintenance to the Coliseum Boulevard bridge across the St. Joseph River, which is just west of the Main Campus. At times throughout the project, access at the Anthony Boulevard and Coliseum Boulevard entrance will be restricted. Construction is scheduled to last until Sept. 16, weather permitting.

Crews will be closing lanes and diverting traffic on Coliseum in both directions during the project.

As of Thursday, the left turn lane on eastbound Coliseum that frequently backs up in the morning remains closed. INDOT reported to the university on Wednesday that work on this stretch of road will continue into the evening hours and may be done early next week. As the project moves to other lanes, it remains to be seen how that will impact traffic patterns, even after the left turn lane reopens.

Anyone looking to drive onto campus during this time is strongly encouraged to adjust their schedules to reflect possible delays. If in doubt, the Crescent Avenue and St. Joe Road entrances are good alternatives for the time being.
