This photo of the late Dr. Baker Pattillo, former SFA president, and his dog, Doches, was taken by Nacogdoches photographer Wendy Floyd for the Humane Society of Nacogdoches County's 2016 "Make That Tail Wag" calendar. It will be featured in a new exhibit celebrating 65 years of the humane society and hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University's East Texas Research Center. The exhibit's opening is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 11 on the second floor of the Steen Library on campus. The public is invited to the opening and can view the exhibit during library hours throughout the fall semester.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The public is invited to celebrate 65 years of the Humane Society of Nacogdoches County at an exhibit hosted by Stephen F. Austin State University's East Texas Research Center. The exhibit's opening is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 11 on the second floor of the Steen Library on campus.

"The association between SFA and the humane society spans the history of the organization," said Kyle Ainsworth, special collections archivist. "The James I. Perkins College of Education has been working with the society on humane education curriculum since the mid-1960s, and SFA faculty and staff have served on the board of directors - several have been president. The archives is the perfect place for the humane society's historical records to reside."

The opening will feature speakers including Ainsworth; Dr. Marc Guidry, associate provost for academic affairs; Dr. Sarah Straub, Montgomery Professor for Humane Education in the Perkins College of Education; and special guests from the humane society.

"You may even spot an animal or two at the opening," Ainsworth said.

The public can view the exhibit during library hoursthroughout the fall semester.
